Travel vibes (2012-2015)

Ever since first setting foot in this tiny powerhouse emirate, Dubai has fascinated me with its energy, optimism and openness towards people from all over the world. I'm a die-hard foodie, so the staggering variety of authentic global fare is exhilarating, and even the shopping here – which I normally consider a chore – is actually a joy. Dubai is a place that's constantly in flux and it's been exciting to see it grow and mature as a city and as a society. I can't wait to see what the future holds.

You can't really talk about Anaheim without mentioning Disneyland – but if that's all you talk about, you're missing out. Anaheim has grown into Orange County's largest city. It's a major convention destination and is home to major league baseball and hockey teams. Especially in the last decade, Anaheim has developed some surprising pockets of cool that have nothing to do with the Mouse House.

So if you're seeking all Disney all the time, by all means, have at it. For everyone else, Anaheim – and the rest of northern Orange County – could provide a welcome break.

An oasis of indulgence dazzling in the desert, Vegas' seduction is unrivaled. The Strip shimmers hypnotically, promising excitement, entertainment, fortune and fame. Seeing is believing.

Dazzled by the shimmering amber of Downtown's streetlights, seduced by the Strip's shiny neon and mesmerized by the city's outlandish, outrageously photogenic pull, I found myself in an escapist vision where I could forget my troubles. But I soon realized that Vegas' real appeal is far richer than its surface glitter. It's in the brilliance of its performers, the artistry of its designers, the inspired passion of its chefs, the ingenuity of its architects and the grit and good humor of the everyday, home-proud folk who keep their city churning round-the-clock, that Las Vegas truly shines.
